About Mayor Philip Stoddard

Dr. Philip Stoddard served five terms as Mayor of the City of South Miami from 2010 to 2020.  In 2015, Mayor Stoddard was appointed by the White House to the Governance Coordinating Committee of the National Ocean Council where he developed national policy for addressing sea level rise. In 2016, Politico Magazine included Mayor Stoddard in the Politico-50 “guide to the thinkers, doers and visionaries transforming American politics”

 

Dr. Stoddard has been a professor of biology at Florida International University since 1992.  His current research program focusses on evolution of the mechanisms by which urban disease-carrying mosquitoes evade our control.
